Best piste skis for advanced and expert skiers (2026/27)

A shortlist from the reviewed 2026/27 catalogue. Betterskis has not tested these skis itself: the selection uses each ski’s reviewed suitability, the manufacturer’s specifications and the independent tests linked on its page.

Advanced and expert piste skis are built to hold an edge at speed on firm or icy snow. They are usually stiffer, heavier and more damp than intermediate models, and they give back energy when you load them through a carved turn. The trade-off is that they need commitment: skied passively, many feel hard work.

The most useful split is turn shape. Narrow skis from the mid-60s to around 70 mm with short radii are built for quick, short carved turns and tend to be the most precise on hard snow. Skis around 70 to 76 mm with longer radii prefer larger arcs and more speed, and the widest frontside carvers, near 80 mm and above, add some versatility in softer or chopped snow at the cost of quickness edge to edge.

Construction is often where these skis differ most: metal laminates, race-style plates and full-length sidewalls all add grip and stability. Many come only as binding packages with an integrated plate, so the binding and plate are part of the ski’s character. For length, advanced skiers usually choose around head height, shorter for short-turn models. This list excludes competition skis; the race-room versions of these families belong to a different category.
