Best piste skis for intermediates (2026/27)

A shortlist from the reviewed 2026/27 catalogue. Betterskis has not tested these skis itself: the selection uses each ski’s reviewed suitability, the manufacturer’s specifications and the independent tests linked on its page.

Once you can ski parallel on most groomed runs, a piste ski is about learning to use the edge: tipping the ski over and letting its sidecut shape the turn instead of pushing the tails around. The right intermediate piste ski grips well enough to reward that, without punishing a turn that starts late or a moment in the back seat.

Look at waist and radius together. Waists in the low to high 70s of millimetres feel quick from edge to edge; much narrower skis are typically race-inspired and expect higher speeds and precise technique. A radius in the low to mid teens of metres encourages round, medium-sized turns, while a longer radius suits faster, open carving. Many piste skis in this range come with integrated bindings and plates, so compare the package as well as the ski.

Construction shapes the feel. Metal laminates add grip and damping on hard snow but need more energy to bend; lighter cores with partial metal or carbon are easier to flex at moderate speeds. Choose a length roughly between chin and forehead height, shorter for quick turns and longer for stability. If you regularly leave the piste, an all-mountain ski in the low 80s is often the better choice.
