Best beginner piste skis (2026/27)
A shortlist from the reviewed 2026/27 catalogue. Betterskis has not tested these skis itself: the selection uses each ski’s reviewed suitability, the manufacturer’s specifications and the independent tests linked on its page.
A beginner ski should make learning easier, not demand technique you have not built yet. That mostly comes down to flex, length and how readily the ski starts a turn. A softer, more forgiving ski bends with less speed and pressure, and a shorter one is easier to steer and stop.
Most beginner piste skis are sold with bindings already fitted, often on a system plate, so the package is ready to ski once a shop sets the release value for your weight and ability. Waists around 70 to 78 mm keep the ski easy to tip onto its edge on groomed snow. A short to moderate turn radius helps link turns at low speed, and tip rocker reduces the chance of the front of the ski catching as you learn to steer.
For length, beginners usually do best with skis that reach somewhere between the chin and the nose, a little shorter if you are light or cautious. Several of the skis below also suit intermediates, which matters if you expect to progress quickly. If you will spend most days off the groomers, an all-mountain ski is a better fit than a narrow piste model.

NordicaSpitfire 73
The 2027 Nordica Spitfire 73 is a progression-focused piste ski designed to remain manageable at lower speeds. It suits a beginner building independent control or an intermediate who enjoys moderate speeds and wants predictable piste handling. The forgiving purpose brings limits: deep snow needs more flotation, and a skier who loads the edges hard at speed may prefer a stronger construction.

NordicaSpitfire 75 FDT
The 2027 Nordica Spitfire 75 is a forgiving piste ski for skiers who want easy turning as groomed snow becomes tracked and uneven. Choose it for a beginner progressing beyond the first lessons or an intermediate who prefers relaxed skiing to forceful carving. Strong skiers seeking a firm platform for fast, highly loaded turns should look toward a more substantial wood-and-metal construction; this model’s purpose is accessible everyday piste skiing.

The X5 is a reasonable choice for beginners moving toward confident carving and intermediates who want an easygoing resort ski. It is not a powder or rough-terrain specialist, and the light, approachable feel should not be mistaken for the support of a heavier high-speed carver.
