Overview

The 2027 Extrem Factory 96 is a resort all-mountain ski for skiers who want a more agile daily ride than the brand’s wider freeride models. Its 96 mm waist leaves room for soft snow and off-trail laps, while the manufacturer positions it for groomers as well. The 172, 179 and 186 cm lengths have progressively longer radii, so the longest option is better suited to larger, faster turns than tight, short-arc carving.

A poplar and beech core with fiberglass gives the Factory 96 a damped but lively feel without a Titanal laminate. Rocker at the tip and tail helps it release and pivot when snow gets soft or uneven; the cambered middle and moderate sidecut preserve edge engagement on firmer runs. The exact-year Freeride.se test found the 186 cm version stable and rewarding at speed on hard snow, though some testers found that length stiff and less playful at low speeds or in deep snow. Shorter sizes have softer flexes, according to the test.

Choose the Factory 96 if you ski varied resort terrain and value a planted edge with enough width for occasional powder and chopped snow. It is aimed at advanced skiers comfortable driving a substantial ski; the 186 cm length especially favors taller or faster skiers. It is not a substitute for a dedicated powder ski on deep days or a lighter touring ski on long climbs. For a stronger metal-reinforced feel, compare the Project 91; for more float and a Titanal insert underfoot, consider Factory 102.

Construction & features

What the Factory 96 is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Poplar and beech wood core

Extrem describes a poplar and beech core, combining a lively response with a more settled feel. The manufacturer does not publish the wood proportions.

  2. 02

    Tip and tail rocker

Rocker at both ends helps the ski enter turns and release more easily, and gives the shovel and tail some support in softer snow.

  3. 03

    Fiberglass reinforcement

Prepreg fiberglass reinforces the wood core. Its even distribution through the laminate helps support the ski without a Titanal layer.

  4. 04

Rubber damping in tip and tail

A 1.5 mm rubber insert at the tip and tail reduces vibration as the ski crosses rough or firm snow.

  5. 05

    Flat ski; bindings sold separately

The manufacturer offers a no-binding option; add bindings separately.
