Overview

The Blizzard Rustler 9 is an all-mountain ski for mixed resort snow, bumps, trees and occasional powder days. Its 96 mm waist in most lengths keeps groomer turns manageable, while the 186 cm version widens to 98 mm. Rockered ends make it easier to pivot when the surface gets chopped up. The 2027 SkiEssentials test confirms that it returns unchanged, with the familiar balance of support and playful release.

The Trueblend Free woodcore blends beech, poplar and paulownia in density zones: softer material toward the ends helps the ski start and release turns, while the denser section underfoot supports grip and control. FluxForm Freeride Ti places tapered metal pieces along the ski and reinforces the binding area, giving the Rustler 9 a calmer platform through crud without locking the tips and tails into a stiff arc. Rockered tip and tail with camber underfoot add float and steering, while the full ABS sidewalls transfer pressure cleanly to the edges.

Choose the Rustler 9 for an advanced or expert skier who regularly moves between groomers, trees and softer snow. The 2027 SkiEssentials test describes a damp, stable and versatile platform, while some testers found its substantial feel less easy to throw around. It rewards a balanced skier who can engage the edge and then release it deliberately. Deep-snow specialists will want more width, while skiers mainly seeking quick, high-angle hardpack turns may prefer a narrower piste ski.

Construction & features

What the Rustler 9 is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Trueblend Free Woodcore

Blends beech, poplar and paulownia in tuned density zones, softening the extremities for easier release while supporting the binding area for control.

  2. 02

    FluxForm Freeride Ti

Tapered titanal pieces and a reinforced underfoot section add damping and grip through chopped snow without making the tip and tail overly rigid.

  3. 03

Rockered tip, camber underfoot, rockered tail

Rocker at both ends helps the ski pivot and float, while camber underfoot preserves edge contact on firmer snow.

  4. 04

    Full ABS sidewalls

Full ABS sidewalls transmit pressure directly to the edges and add structural durability in a sandwich construction.

  5. 05

    96–98 mm platform

A 96 mm waist in most sizes balances groomer handling with soft-snow support; the 186 cm length widens to 98 mm.

  6. 06

    Flat ski

Bindings are selected separately; the manufacturer lists suggested bindings rather than an included system.
