Overview

The 2027 Faction Studio 1 is a purpose-built symmetrical twin for park and pipe skiing, where balanced takeoffs, spins and switch landings matter more than all-mountain efficiency. Its 90 mm waist is wider than a narrow competition park ski, but the equal 120 mm tip and tail and center mount give it a distinctly freestyle focus rather than the directional feel of the Dancer line.

A poplar wood core and fiberglass layers provide a springy platform. Carbon stringers add stiffness and response, and a carbon-and-rubber stomp pad underfoot is intended to soften repeated landings. SkiEssentials testers called it quick, crisp and supportive, with some useful on-piste range, but emphasized that its symmetrical shape is designed first for park performance.

Choose the Studio 1 if you spend most of your time jumping, spinning and skiing switch, and want a balanced ski with substantial edge durability. It best suits advanced and expert park skiers; its pop and support may feel more demanding than a forgiving all-mountain ski. For daily groomers, bumps or off-piste laps, the less symmetrical Studio 2 or a Dancer will be more natural.

Construction & features

What the Studio 1 is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Symmetrical twin-tip shape

The tip and tail share the same width and rocker intent, creating a balanced ski for spins, switch takeoffs and landings.

  2. 02

    Carbon stringers

Eight to twelve carbon strips run alongside the core within the fiberglass laminate; Faction says they add stiffness and response while keeping bulk low.

  3. 03

    Carbon and rubber stomp pad

This underfoot reinforcement is intended to protect the core and absorb vibration from hard landings.

  4. 04

    Poplar and fiberglass construction

Poplar provides flex and rebound, while fiberglass layers add strength and torsional support for takeoffs and landings.

  5. 05

7 mm sidewall and XL edges

Faction specifies a 7 mm XL sidewall and reinforced edges for durability and edge hold during park use.

  6. 06

    Flat ski

Bindings are sold separately; published weights exclude binding hardware.
