Overview

The Salomon S/LAB QST X is a dedicated powder ski for deep days, open bowls and soft-snow lines through the trees. Its 116 mm waist and generous rocker favor flotation and a loose, pivoting turn rather than a locked-in carve. The 2027 version receives a new graphic, with unchanged construction according to the exact-year SkiEssentials test. It is sold without bindings.

A karuba and poplar core keeps this large platform relatively light. Flax and carbon reinforcement adds support without a metal laminate, while double sidewalls help transmit pressure underfoot and cork in the tip reduces vibration. The long-radius shape opens up when given space, but taper and rocker let the ends release for shorter slashes. SkiEssentials testers particularly liked its flotation and maneuverability in deep snow, describing a ski that is easy to redirect when the terrain gets tighter.

Choose the QST X for an advanced or expert skier whose priority is playful powder skiing. It makes sense as a deep-day addition to a quiver, especially for someone who values low swing weight and easy release. Its width slows edge changes on groomers, and testers found limited grip and stability on firm or broken snow. A narrower, more substantial resort ski is a better everyday choice when soft snow is the exception.

Construction & features

What the S/LAB QST X is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    116 mm powder platform

A 116 mm waist provides substantial surface area for flotation, while the tapered tips and tails help the ends release in soft snow.

  2. 02

    Karuba / Poplar Full Woodcore

Karuba mixed with poplar reduces mass while retaining a supportive, lively woodcore under a large freeride shape.

  3. 03

    Flax Carbon Superlight Fibers

Flax and carbon fibers reinforce the ski with stiffness and rebound at low weight, without the feel of a full metal laminate.

  4. 04

    Double Sidewalls

Double sidewalls support edge transmission and stability through the center of the ski; the official construction uses recycled sidewall material.

  5. 05

    Cork Damplifier

Cork in the tip absorbs vibration and impact while keeping the powder ski light and predictable.

  6. 06

    Rocker-camber-rocker freeride profile

Rocker at the tip and tail with camber underfoot helps the ski plane, pivot and release in soft snow.

  7. 07

Skis only — bindings sold separately

This listing supplies skis without bindings, allowing a compatible binding to be selected for the intended setup.
