Overview
The Rossignol Sender 118 is a dedicated deep-snow freeride twin for storm days, big lines and skiers who spend most of their time away from groomers. Its 118 mm waist, broad tapered ends and dramatic rocker provide a large, surfy platform for powder and wind-affected snow. The 2026/27 product is the Sender 118 Open; SkiEssentials describes the name and graphic as new while the structure carries over.
A poplar core reinforced with Diago fiber, fiberglass and epoxy gives this ski unusual heft and composure. Rocker/camber/rocker keeps the ends loose and the middle supportive, while the tapered twin shape makes it easy to throw sideways or land switch. Air Tip reduces swing weight at the extremities, but it remains a heavy ski by design. SkiEssentials reports a smooth, sturdy feel, with long rocker lines and a long radius encouraging drift and open turns rather than short carved arcs.
Choose it for advanced and expert skiers who want flotation and a composed platform in deep snow, chopped powder and big terrain. SkiEssentials found it easy to drift sideways in fresh snow despite its substantial build, while emphasizing its specialist, expert-oriented character. The wide waist and long turn radius make little sense for someone who mainly carves groomers, and its mass asks more of the skier when quick direction changes are needed. This is a dedicated powder ski rather than an everyday resort compromise: the narrower Sender 110 or Soul 102 covers a broader mix of conditions.
Construction & features
What the Men's SENDER 118 OPEN is built from, and what that means on snow.
- 01
118 mm freeride platform
The wide waist and large shovel/tail provide surface area for flotation in deep snow and support in variable powder.
- 02
Diago fiber reinforcement
Diago fiber increases torsional rigidity, power and rebound, helping the ski resist twisting when loaded while retaining a responsive feel.
- 03
Poplar wood core
Poplar provides a lively wood platform while fiberglass and epoxy add structure and damping.
- 04
Rocker/Camber/Rocker
Rocker at both ends releases the ski in soft snow while camber underfoot preserves support and rebound.
- 05
Air Tip
Air Tip removes material from the extremities to reduce swing weight without changing the ski's substantial underfoot character.
- 06
Tapered twin-tip shape
Taper and twin tips make the long ski easier to pivot, slash and use for freestyle lines in open terrain.
- 07
Open flat ski
The Open version is supplied without bindings; mounting and binding selection are separate decisions.
