Overview

The 2027 Armada ARV 88 Madsteez is a light, park-capable all-mountain twin built for skiers who want freestyle movement to remain part of an ordinary resort day. At 88 mm underfoot it is quicker edge to edge than the wider ARVs and makes its strongest case on groomers, park features and firm, predictable snow, while its twin shape invites switch skiing and side-hit detours.

A poplar core, ash binding insert and W3Dgewall sidewall give the ski a lively but supported center, and camber underfoot provides rebound for takeoffs and carved turns. Armada’s AR Freestyle Rocker adds modest lift at both ends, helping the ski release and reducing catch on transitions. SkiEssentials testers described it as quick and playful, with good energy and edge grip for park laps, but some reported less stability in rough snow and a relatively strong hold that can be harder to break loose once carving.

Choose the ARV 88 if park laps, groomers and a mobile twin-tip feel matter more than powder flotation or bulldozing through chopped snow. Confident intermediates can use its lighter weight and quick response, while advanced freestyle skiers will appreciate the spring and durable build. For softer snow, the ARV 94 or 100 offers more platform, and for sustained high-speed crud, a heavier ski is a better fit.

Construction & features

What the ARV 88 MADSTEEZ is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Poplar core

The 100% poplar core is specified for stability, power and pop without excess weight, supporting an energetic, predictable feel.

  2. 02

    AR Freestyle Rocker

Rocker at tip and tail helps release turns and adds versatility in variable snow; camber underfoot contributes edge contact and rebound.

  3. 03

    Ash binding insert

A hardwood insert beneath binding screws is intended to improve screw retention under repeated impacts.

  4. 04

    W3Dgewall

This three-dimensional injected sidewall angles into the wood core; Armada says the geometry improves durability/performance while reducing weight.

  5. 05

    2.5 Impact Edge

The oversized, heat-treated edge is intended to resist impact damage from hard use, including park laps.

  6. 06

    S7 sintered base

Armada describes the S7 sintered base as optimized for speed, durability and wax retention.

  7. 07

Flat ski — bindings sold separately

This is the flat ski-only configuration. Bindings are sold separately and need professional mounting and adjustment.
