Overview

The 2027 S/LAB QST Blank is Salomon's directional freeride ski for skiers who want a broad, supportive platform when the mountain is soft, steep or chopped up. Its 112 mm waist, tapered outline and generous rocker at both ends favour flotation and a controlled release, while the ski's long length options suit fast fall-line skiing. SkiEssentials' 2027 test describes it as a damp, stable charger that still turns more readily than its size suggests. This is a flat ski, so bindings are chosen and mounted separately.

A full poplar core gives the Blank a strong centre flex, with basalt and fiberglass reinforcing the ski without making it a metal laminate. Cork Damplifier at the tip and tail takes the sting out of rough snow, while full sandwich sidewalls and the wide steel edge transmit pressure cleanly and add edge durability. The 23% tip and 20% tail rocker help the ski plane up and pivot in deep snow; camber underfoot keeps it engaged when a groomer or firm wind lip appears. The result is a ski that can arc surprisingly well for a 112 mm freeride shape, but rewards deliberate pressure.

Choose it for powder, trees, open bowls and storm-day chop when stability and float matter more than quick edge changes. Advanced and expert skiers will make better use of its weight, length and supportive tail; lighter or less powerful skiers may find it tiring. It is too wide and substantial to be the quickest everyday piste ski, and a wider powder specialist will offer more lift in bottomless snow.

Construction & features

What the S/LAB QST Blank is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Full Poplar Woodcore

The full poplar core supplies a supportive, energetic flex for driving the ski through variable snow.

  2. 02

    Basalt and fiberglass laminate

Basalt and fiberglass add strength and rebound while keeping the construction more elastic than a full metal sheet.

  3. 03

    Cork Damplifier

Cork in the tip and tail filters high-frequency vibration so the ski stays composed in chopped snow.

  4. 04

    Full Sandwich Sidewalls

A full sandwich sidewall sends edging pressure directly into the steel edge for predictable hard-snow contact.

  5. 05

    Wide Steel Edge

The wider steel edge improves durability for a ski that regularly sees rocks, refrozen tracks and rough fall lines.

  6. 06

    23%/20% freeride rocker

The pronounced 23% tip and 20% tail rocker help the 112 mm ski float and release without losing cambered support underfoot.

  7. 07

Skis only — bindings sold separately

This is a flat ski supplied without bindings; select and mount a compatible binding separately.
