Overview

The Salomon DÉPART.FIRST + C5 GW is a junior introduction to freeskiing, combining easy steering on groomed runs with a twin-tip shape for early park exploration. The 113, 123 and 133 cm lengths are intended for smaller skiers. Their 78–82 mm waists keep the platform manageable while leaving room to explore mixed resort snow. C5 GW bindings and the Juniortrak interface are included.

A light composite core and cap construction keep the ski easy to maneuver, helping a developing skier change direction without demanding much leverage. Rocker at both ends lets the tips and tails release when pivoting; the twin-tip shape also supports learning to ski backward. Camber underfoot provides contact through a normal turn, while the short 6–10 metre radii favor compact arcs. Wide steel edges leave useful material for wear and repeated tuning.

Choose it for a beginner or early intermediate child who enjoys experimenting as well as learning conventional turns. It gives a young skier space to try small features and switch skiing without moving straight to a demanding adult freestyle ski. The narrow, forgiving platform has limits in deeper snow and at higher speeds. Larger or stronger juniors focused on more substantial jumps and soft-snow terrain will eventually need more support and surface area.

Construction & features

What the DÉPART.FIRST + C5 GW is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Composite core

The light composite core keeps steering effort low so a child can build balance and turn timing without fighting the ski.

  2. 02

    Cap construction

A cap build encloses the core under one topsheet, favoring a forgiving feel and simple, durable construction for progression.

  3. 03

    Wide steel edge

A wide steel edge provides more material for wear and repeated tuning during use on snow and early park features.

  4. 04

    Twin Tip with rocker-camber-rocker

Raised tips and tails help the ski release and make small backward or pivoting movements less awkward, while camber supplies contact underfoot.

  5. 05

    Juniortrak + C5 GW package

Juniortrak and the C5 GW binding form the supplied adjustable system; the set is ready to pair with compatible junior boots after proper setup.
