Overview

The Fischer Transalp 86 CTI is an uphill-oriented touring ski for longer days where carrying less weight matters. Its narrow waist favours efficient travel and edge-to-edge movements over the surface area of the wider Transalp models. The ski is supplied flat, leaving the choice of touring binding and skins to the skier.

Fischer combines a lightweight wood core and Air Tec construction with carbon stringers and a shaped Titanal inlay. The construction aims to keep the ski light on the ascent while retaining torsional support for the descent. Tour Rocker lifts the tip to help initiate turns in variable snow, and sandwich sidewalls help transmit pressure to the edges on firmer surfaces. The weight is a useful feature on a long climb, but a light ski can require a more attentive stance when the snow becomes rough or irregular.

Consider it for a touring skier who values efficient ascents and skis a mix of firm, spring and softer backcountry conditions. The 86 mm waist is less buoyant in deep powder than the broader Transalp 98 or 105, and the light construction is not a substitute for a heavier resort ski when driving through chopped snow at speed. A compatible touring binding, skins and backcountry equipment are separate choices; match them to your intended terrain and experience.

Construction & features

What the Transalp 86 CTI is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

Ultra Light Woodcore, Air Tec and carbon stringers

Fischer pairs its lightweight woodcore/Air Tec construction with carbon stringers. The manufacturer describes the combination as keeping weight down while retaining torsional stiffness and stability for descents.

  2. 02

    Shaped Ti

A shaped metal inlay follows the ski’s geometry; Fischer describes it as providing stability, grip and a smoother ride.

  3. 03

    Tour Rocker and sandwich sidewalls

Fischer’s Tour Rocker lifts the tip to help the ski pivot and stay composed in softer snow. Sandwich sidewalls carry pressure to the edges for grip on firmer surfaces.

  4. 04

Flat ski — touring bindings sold separately

This is the ski-only configuration. A compatible touring binding and climbing skins are purchased separately.
