Overview

The Fischer Ranger 108 is a freeride ski for skiers who spend much of their day looking for soft snow. Its broad platform and rockered ends are intended for flotation and manoeuvrability away from the groomed trail, with enough structure to take on chopped-up snow after fresh tracks disappear. SkiEssentials describes the 2027 version as a carryover.

A beech and poplar core works with a shaped Titanal layer concentrated around the middle of the ski. Fischer’s Flex Cut varies the material and geometry around the binding area to tune the flex, while the rockered ends make the ski easier to release in softer snow. In SkiEssentials’ test, one skier praised its ability to drive through rough snow but found it less quick and smear-friendly than some alternatives.

Choose it for an advanced or expert skier who likes a directional, substantial ski and has regular access to soft snow or bigger terrain. It can make turns on groomers, but its width takes more effort to tip on edge than a narrower resort ski. The relatively robust build also makes a lighter touring ski a better choice for long climbs. If nimble, low-speed turns in tight terrain matter most, a less demanding ski may be easier to manage.

Construction & features

What the Ranger 108 is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Poplar and beech woodcore

Fischer combines poplar, which it describes as lighter and livelier, with denser beech for damping and support. The result is a substantial ski that stays composed in rough snow while retaining some rebound.

  2. 02

    Shaped Ti 0.5

A 0.5 mm Titanal layer is contoured to the ski instead of running as an identical full-width sheet from tip to tail. Fischer says this balances stability, edge grip and a smoother ride; testers describe a damp, secure feel underfoot.

  3. 03

    Freeski Rocker and Flex Cut

Fischer’s raised, tapered Freeski Rocker shortens the effective contact length to ease turn initiation and help the ski pivot in soft snow. The Flex Cut at the binding area is intended to tune the flex for the ski’s target use.

  4. 04

Flat ski — bindings sold separately

This is the ski-only configuration. Bindings are sold separately.
