Overview

The Fischer Ranger 102 is a soft-snow-biased all-mountain ski that still has enough edge and composure for resort laps between storms. Its 103 mm reference waist gives it a broad platform for fresh snow, trees, bumps and mixed off-piste terrain. Fischer and the 2027 SkiEssentials test describe this season as a carryover of the established shape and construction, rather than a newly claimed design.

A poplar-and-beech wood core pairs a lighter, lively feel with the denser wood’s damping. Fischer’s 0.5 mm Shaped Ti layer is concentrated underfoot and shaped around the ski, adding grip and calm through the middle while leaving the shovel and tail more willing to flex. The raised, tapered ends help the ski release and pivot in softer snow; testers also found it can hold an edge on groomers once driven deliberately. Its substantial mass smooths rough snow but asks for strength, and opinions on its feedback varied.

Choose the Ranger 102 if you want one resort ski for soft snow, open bowls and varied terrain, with enough versatility to return to groomers. It suits advanced skiers and experts who can pressure the front of the boot and appreciate a damp, supportive ride. It is less appealing for firm-snow carving, very quick short turns or skiers who want a light, highly reactive ski; a narrower or more energetic model will feel quicker edge to edge and more communicative on hard snow.

Construction & features

What the Ranger 102 is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Poplar and beech woodcore

Fischer combines poplar, which it describes as lighter and livelier, with denser beech for damping and support. The result is a substantial ski that stays composed in rough snow while retaining some rebound.

  2. 02

    Shaped Ti 0.5

A 0.5 mm Titanal layer is contoured to the ski instead of running as an identical full-width sheet from tip to tail. Fischer says this balances stability, edge grip and a smoother ride; testers describe a damp, secure feel underfoot.

  3. 03

    Freeski Rocker and Flex Cut

Fischer’s raised, tapered Freeski Rocker shortens the effective contact length to ease turn initiation and help the ski pivot in soft snow. The Flex Cut at the binding area is intended to tune the flex for the ski’s target use.

  4. 04

Flat ski — bindings sold separately

This is the ski-only configuration. Bindings are sold separately.
