Overview

The 2027 Extrem Formula 88 is an all-mountain ski built around short, energetic turns. Its 88 mm waist keeps it quick edge to edge on groomers, while the playful rocker and shape leave room for trees, bumps and occasional park laps. The 166, 174 and 182 cm lengths all have unusually short published radii; even the 182 cm is listed at 12.5 m. That makes this a very different choice from a directional ski designed to hold long arcs at speed.

A poplar core and soft tip and tail flex make the ski easier to bend and release. A 65 mm Titanal stringer underfoot adds some edge grip and rebound without turning the whole ski into a stiff metal laminate. Extrem pairs that narrow metal strip with rocker at both ends and an asymmetric sidecut. In Freeride.se’s winter 2026/27 all-mountain test, testers gave the Formula 88 a 5/5: the write-up praised its grip on hard snow and unusually quick turns, and said it was at its best on flatter, groomed pistes. The testers cautioned that skiers who want fast, long-radius turns may prefer a longer-radius model.

Choose the Formula 88 if you like making short carved turns, want a lively ski for mixed resort terrain, and do not need a dedicated powder tool. It can move between groomers, bumps and trees, but its short radius can feel busy if you prefer to point downhill and let a ski run. It is less suited to deep powder or long backcountry climbs than a wider freeride or touring ski. Extrem sells it without bindings, allowing you to choose an alpine setup separately.

Construction & features

What the Formula 88 is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Short-radius asymmetric sidecut

The shape combines a very short sidecut radius with different geometry through the ski. It encourages fast direction changes and tight carved arcs rather than long GS-style turns.

  2. 02

    65 mm Titanal stringer

A 0.4 mm-thick, 65 mm-wide Titanal strip underfoot adds local edge grip, stability and rebound while avoiding a full-width metal laminate.

  3. 03

    Poplar wood core

Poplar forms the wood core and provides the ski’s springy, responsive flex.

  4. 04

    Tip and tail rocker

Rocker at both ends helps the ski release and pivot in bumps, trees and soft snow.

  5. 05

    Soft tip and tail flex

Extrem describes the tip and tail flex as soft, helping make the ski bend and handle easily across speeds.

  6. 06

    Flat ski; bindings sold separately

The official product page offers a no-binding configuration; bindings are selected separately.
