Overview

The Dynastar M-Free 108 Open is a directional freeride twin for skiers who want to surf soft snow, slash through trees and still link turns back to the lift. At 108 mm underfoot, it has more support in fresh snow than a mid-90s all-mountain ski, but its rockered ends and twin-tail outline keep the feel loose enough for side hits and switch landings. The 2027 model carries forward its construction with a new graphic; it is sold flat, with bindings chosen separately.

Dynastar pairs a three-direction wood core with polyurethane in its Hybrid Core 2.0, then uses unidirectional fiberglass instead of relying on more composite layers. The company describes this as a way to reduce composite fiber while retaining a smooth, lively ride. Long tip and tail rocker make it easier to pivot and release a turn in soft or uneven snow; camber underfoot supplies rebound on firmer sections. Full sidewalls run the length of the ski for direct edge engagement, and a sintered HD base is built for glide and durability.

SkiEssentials testers found it light and versatile, with its strongest case in powder, trees and variable off-piste terrain; it remains usable on groomers, though it is a wide ski to drive on hardpack all day. The width and energy suit advanced skiers who move quickly and actively through the mountain. It is less compelling for a cautious skier seeking easy edge-to-edge carving, or for someone prioritizing damp, metal-backed stability on icy pistes. For a more directional, firm-snow biased option, the M-Pro 100 Ti is the sharper contrast.

Construction & features

What the M-Free 108 Open is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Hybrid Core 2.0

Wood and polyurethane combine to balance a lively wood response with a smoother, lighter feel; Dynastar says the layup reduces the need for glued fiberglass layers.

  2. 02

    Three-direction wood core

The wood is arranged in three directions, which allows Dynastar to use more natural wood fiber and fewer composite layers in the core design.

  3. 03

    Unidirectional fiberglass

Fiberglass runs in one direction rather than as multiple cross layers; the manufacturer presents this as a way to retain performance while reducing composite fiber.

  4. 04

    Progressive rocker

Long rise at the tip and tail loosens the contact points, helping the ski pivot, release and plane in soft snow.

  5. 05

    Adaptiv Sidecut

The sidecut transitions progressively from tip through waist to tail, supporting smoother turn entry and exit.

  6. 06

    Full sidewall construction

Sidewalls extend along the ski to transfer force to the edges and support grip and precision.

  7. 07

    Sintered HD base

The dense sintered base is designed to glide across snow conditions and withstand regular use.

  8. 08

    Open/flat ski

Bindings are sold separately. No binding package is represented by this ski-only listing.
