Overview

The 2027 Black Crows Captis Birdie is a 90 mm women’s all-mountain ski with a freestyle twin-tip shape, built for skiers who mix groomers with trees, bumps and occasional park laps. It is a 2026/27 carryover with four lengths, and its lightweight, softer flex makes it easier to steer than the wider Camox Birdie. SkiEssentials’ testers found it approachable and quick to move from edge to edge, though some reported less dependable grip on firm snow.

A poplar core and fiberglass laminate keep the ski light while giving it enough torsional support for carving. Double rocker helps the tip and tail release into pivots, and classic camber underfoot maintains contact and rebound. The ski’s freestyle-derived twin tip and directional sidecut leave it usable forward or switch, while its progressive, softened flex is intended to be comfortable and accessible. Unlike the Camox Birdie, the Captis Birdie has no ash pocket reinforcement.

Pick it for a lighter, creative resort ski that can move between groomed runs, bumps, trees and easy park progression. The modest 90 mm waist is quicker edge to edge and more manageable for shorter or lighter skiers than a wider all-mountain ski. Its soft, lively feel can be overwhelmed by a heavier or very aggressive skier at speed, and 90 mm is not a deep-powder platform. Skiers who prioritize hard-snow grip or a more planted feel should look to a stiffer, narrower ski.

Construction & features

What the Captis Birdie is built from, and what that means on snow.

  1. 01

    Light poplar and fiberglass build

The poplar core supplies the wood structure and fiberglass layers reinforce the ski. This construction keeps the Captis Birdie lighter and more maneuverable than the ash-reinforced Camox Birdie.

  2. 02

    90 mm freestyle all-mountain waist

A 90 mm waist makes quick edge changes easier than on a wider freeride ski, while still giving a useful platform for soft snow and all-mountain use.

  3. 03

    Double rocker and classic camber

The tip and tail rise to ease pivoting and release; camber through the middle keeps contact and rebound for carving.

  4. 04

    Progressive, softened flex

Black Crows describes a progressive, softened flex. SkiEssentials testers found it easy to maneuver, while noting it gives up some firm-snow grip compared with a stiffer ski.

  5. 05

    Flat ski, bindings sold separately

The 2026/27 workbook lists the ski-only model, without an integrated binding system. Bindings are a separate purchase.
